Alexander Group Announces Results from 2014 Sales Comp Trends Survey
Scottsdale, Ariz., January 14, 2014 – The Alexander Group announced today the findings from its “2014 Sales Compensation Trends Survey.” Actual sales compensation costs increased a median of 5 percent, two percentage points above the planned increase of 3 percent for 2013, according to the survey results.
“Sale leaders, while exceeding their 2013 sales compensation budgets, are striving to keep pay increases in check with a planned 3 percent increase in sales compensation spending in 2013,” said David Cichelli, survey editor and senior vice president of the Alexander Group.
Key Sales Department Trends:
- 8 percent is the expected median increase in revenue for 2014.
- 3 percent is the median pay increase for companies planning base pay increases in 2014.
- 3 percent is the median planned increase in the incentive budget for 2014.
- 3 percent is the median increase in total earnings planned for 2014.
- 54.5 percent to increase headcount in 2014.
- 10 percent is the median projected turnover rate for 2014.
- 71.2 percent of the reporting companies plan to give base pay increases in 2014.
- 49 percent was the median population of sales personnel reaching quota in 2013.
- 95 percent was the median quota performance for sales personnel in 2013.
- 5 percent was the 2013 median compensation cost of sales for the reporting companies.
Participants provided data in December 2013. More than 100 sales departments representing more than 138,550 sales professionals contributed to the survey.
